Since 1974, our consumer-owned natural foods market, has provided quality whole foods to shoppers and members in Atlanta and surrounding cities throughout Georgia. Our fresh market is owned and operated by our members and provides a natural source of healthy, local, and organic foods to the local community.
Sevananda is proud to support local farmers and businesses by selling local organic food, including seasonal produce, natural groceries, bulk herbs and spices, and other specialty health and wellness products in high demand. Offering locally grown foods allows us to live up to the commitment of our triple bottom line philosophy of economic, environmental, and social responsibility. By supporting our local community, we help to reduce the environmental impact of product transportation and provides our members and shoppers with the option of fresh, organic produce that is grown within 150 miles of our store, as well as many other natural foods, supplements, and health products.
If you’re looking for the best in whole and natural foods, vitamins and supplements, you’ve come to the right place. At Sevananda, we make it easy to find out all there is to know about the food you eat. What’s in it, and what isn’t. Where it’s from, how it’s grown, and who it’s grown by. That’s because we sell only the highest quality whole and natural foods — sourced locally and organically grown whenever possible — just as we have since 1974. And with product sourcing policies more demanding than any other stores, we fully guarantee the integrity and quality of what we sell. We call that food integrity. It’s what we live by, and what Sevananda has been all about from the beginning. Because it’s the only way we can promise you’re getting food you can trust. You can find out more about the food integrity difference at Sevananda from any of our store team members — every one of them’s more than happy to share what they know in the cause of good food. Welcome to a very different kind of market.

The 5 Healthiest Winter Fruits and Vegetables
by Keri Gans, R.D.N.
It seems every year when winter approaches, many of my patients complain, "There just aren't as many fruits and veggies available." I, of course, beg to differ. Yes, the farmers markets and supermarkets aren't booming with an assortment of colorful berries (at least tasty and inexpensive ones), tomatoes, or corn, but they still have plenty of healthy options. These five are delicious and provide the greatest nutrition bang for your caloric buck. You just might miss them come summer.
1. Beets: The problem with beets is that many people avoid them because they think they are high in sugar. However, that really isn't so: One raw beet has 5.5 grams for 35 calories. Plus they are a good source of magnesium and calcium (both important for bone health), iron (which you need for energy and to prevent and hair loss), fiber (to help to fill you up), and folic acid (necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells in our bodies, and especially important for pregnant woman). Beets are especially important during the winter because they have a unique source of phytonutrients, called betalains, which provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support to help keep your immune system strong.
2. Brussels sprouts: A member of the cabbage family, Brussels sprouts have seen a recent rise in popularity, and that's a good thing. (I wonder what took everyone so long-I love them!) They are an excellent source of bone-strengthening vitamin K and may give you a glow thanks to the vitamin C, which supports collagen production and products against free radicals. A cup also provides 15 percent of your daily iron and 13 percent of your recommended fiber.
3. Cauliflower: Ever since we were told to load our plates with color, white foods have been getting a bad rap. Cauliflower doesn't deserve it. It is an excellent source of folic acid and vitamins C and K, and also contains lots of iron, fiber, potassium for efficient muscle function, and B vitamins, which play a role in everything from hair growth to red blood cell creation to carrying oxygen and nutrients to cells of our body.
4. Clementines: I know the winter season is upon us when I see the boxes of clementines, a cross between a mandarin and an orange, in the supermarket. So easy to peel, they make the easiest grab-and-go citrus fruit this time of year. Besides being a excellent source of vitamin C, they also contain calcium and potassium, and are a great low calorie fruit: a serving of two clementines is only 80 calories.
5. Pears: I think pears are an overlooked fruit, with so many more people grabbing apples at this time of year. One of the highest-fiber fruits, a medium pear offers about 6 grams, which can help with blood sugar control and promote weight loss. An excellent source of vitamins C and K, pears are also packed with B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and manganese.

Please spread the word about this wonderful service for those going through chemotherapy.
If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service.

Paul Quinn Organic Farm Provides Food to Cowboys Stadium
Paul Quinn College farm supplies produce for AT&T Stadium
DALLAS -- Legends Hospitality and the newly-renamed AT&T Stadium are using these ingredients grown and harvested at the WE over ME Farm atPaul Quinn College.
"It's going to be picked today, and used this afternoon -- it doesn't get fresher than that," said AT&T Stadium Executive Chef Orazio LaManna.
Recipes for the Cowboys' menu depends, in part, on what's thriving here. Ironically, the land is the old football stadium at Paul Quinn.
George Wasai played ball here, and has been the Cowboys food manager for 23 years. He knew the land from running plays, and now it's for harvesting a healthier choice.
"If you are not going to play football on the beautiful soil like this, make use of it," Wasai said.
"When I tell people are largest client is Legends food and the Cowboys, they think I'm making it up," said Michael Sorrell, the President of Paul Quinn College.
And that's just the bonus.
Paul Quinn College students originally set out to address affordable, healthy food choices in struggling parts of Dallas.
"Where else can you look around and say, 'How can we solve the problems we are faced with? We can create our own garden,'" Sorrell said.
A garden he calls the "organic field of dreams," modeled after Yale University's sustainable food project.
"There is nothing that chefs want to do more than produce fresh food, and knowing where it is coming from," Orazio said.
