Sevananda Natural Foods Market

Since 1974, our consumer-owned natural foods market, has provided quality whole foods to shoppers and members in Atlanta and surrounding cities throughout Georgia. Our fresh market is owned and operated by our members and provides a natural source of healthy, local, and organic foods to the local community.
Sevananda is proud to support local farmers and businesses by selling local organic food, including seasonal produce, natural groceries, bulk herbs and spices, and other specialty health and wellness products in high demand. Offering locally grown foods allows us to live up to the commitment of our triple bottom line philosophy of economic, environmental, and social responsibility. By supporting our local community, we help to reduce the environmental impact of product transportation and provides our members and shoppers with the option of fresh, organic produce that is grown within 150 miles of our store, as well as many other natural foods, supplements, and health products.
If you’re looking for the best in whole and natural foods, vitamins and supplements, you’ve come to the right place. At Sevananda, we make it easy to find out all there is to know about the food you eat. What’s in it, and what isn’t. Where it’s from, how it’s grown, and who it’s grown by. That’s because we sell only the highest quality whole and natural foods — sourced locally and organically grown whenever possible — just as we have since 1974. And with product sourcing policies more demanding than any other stores, we fully guarantee the integrity and quality of what we sell. We call that food integrity. It’s what we live by, and what Sevananda has been all about from the beginning. Because it’s the only way we can promise you’re getting food you can trust. You can find out more about the food integrity difference at Sevananda from any of our store team members — every one of them’s more than happy to share what they know in the cause of good food. Welcome to a very different kind of market.

DALLAS -- Legends Hospitality and the newly-renamed AT&T Stadium are using these ingredients grown and harvested at the WE over ME Farm atPaul Quinn College.

"It's going to be picked today, and used this afternoon -- it doesn't get fresher than that," said AT&T Stadium Executive Chef Orazio LaManna.

Recipes for the Cowboys' menu depends, in part, on what's thriving here. Ironically, the land is the old football stadium at Paul Quinn.
George Wasai played ball here, and has been the Cowboys food manager for 23 years. He knew the land from running plays, and now it's for harvesting a healthier choice.

"If you are not going to play football on the beautiful soil like this, make use of it," Wasai said.

"When I tell people are largest client is Legends food and the Cowboys, they think I'm making it up," said Michael Sorrell, the President of Paul Quinn College.

And that's just the bonus.

Paul Quinn College students originally set out to address affordable, healthy food choices in struggling parts of Dallas.

"Where else can you look around and say, 'How can we solve the problems we are faced with? We can create our own garden,'" Sorrell said.

A garden he calls the "organic field of dreams," modeled after Yale University's sustainable food project.

"There is nothing that chefs want to do more than produce fresh food, and knowing where it is coming from," Orazio said.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — More than a third of Baltimore’s neighborhoods don’t have grocery stores. It’s a problem that’s contributed to the city’s high obesity rate.
Gigi Barnett takes a look at how one southwest Baltimore store is trying to change that.
Pam Burley’s grocery cart is loaded with fruits and vegetables.
She shops at the Food Depot in southwest Baltimore. The store just finished a complete overhaul to offer more healthy options to neighbors.
“You’ve got to eat healthy. Your health is more important than the price,” Burley said. But the store still lowered prices on organic foods, brought in more signs to showcase healthy choices and hired a full-time dietician to show shoppers how to eat well on a budget.
“I took a pack of chicken breast and I made it into five different things for a total of 37 different servings for under $5,” said Sheryl Hoehner, registered dietician.
About 36 percent of Baltimore’s neighborhoods are in what’s called a “food desert.” That means the nearest grocery store is more than a quarter mile away and less than 60 percent of the people in those communities have a car to get to one.
“That’s very troubling to me, and it’s something I care deeply about,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
Those kind of changes drew the attention of city Mayor Rawlings-Blake, who wants more stores like Food Depot in Baltimore to bring in more fruits and vegetables.
“So many of the diseases that impact our community in Baltimore are impacted by obesity. If we can get that under control we would be able to create a healthier city,” the mayor said.
In addition to Food Depot being the first Baltimore grocery store with a dietician on staff, the store is also teaming up with a local gym to offer exercise classes.
The city says it especially needs more grocery stores because about 25 percent of children live in food deserts.
